Taking Care Of Your Staff Will Build Loyalty
There are a lot of companies out there who don’t seem to realise that if you take care of your staff, you would be building loyalty without even really doing anything. Your team is not a team of robots - they are people who have needs, feelings, and emotions. It’s therefore important that if you want their loyalty, you want to ensure that they stay with you as long as possible, and that they are performing as best they can for your business, that you are looking after them.
But, what kind of things should you be doing, and why are they important? These are good questions, and ones we’re going to be answering right now. Want to know more? Feel free to read on.
Care For Them
It’s important that you care for your team. It’s one thing to say that you’re all one big work family, but it’s another thing to actually treat them this way. Your team deserves to come to work in a place where they feel comfortable, where they feel safe, where they feel as though they are cared for. If you can’t provide them with this, the chances are that they are going to go and find it somewhere else.
We’re not saying that you have to be there 24/7 to offer them advice and comfort, because this is not the case at all. But, what you do need to do is have compassion and understanding when things go wrong for them, or when they are struggling. Good employees are hard to come by at times, and you don’t want to risk them by not being flexible where you can be, and not caring about what they need.
Train Them
We also recommend that you put the time into training them. While this one might not seem like such a big deal to some business owners, it’s a big deal to your employees. Training them shows them that you are investing in them, the same way that they are investing their time and skills into your company. You are showing them that you are there to support them through their career, even providing them with the tools that they need to continue progressing.
We are aware that the reason many companies don’t do this is that they worry it will be a waste of time and resources when someone decides to leave later down the line, but if you invest in their training and allow them to move forward, the chances of this happening decrease.
Provide For Them
It’s important to note that we’re not asking you to do anything unreasonable for your employees, but providing for them on a basic level while they are in the office is more of a bare minimum. Things like ensuring that the office is a reasonable temperature so that they have a safe and comfortable working environment is bare minimum.
If you then want to go a little beyond, ensure that the break room is stocked with essentials such as sparkling water, plain water, tea, coffee, and the basics that you think are reasonable. Of course, you can even go beyond this if you want to, but you do not have to. These basics will be appreciated more than you likely realise.
Listen To Them
Finally, we want to point out that if you want to take care of your staff and build loyalty, listening to them will go a long way. Your employees want to feel as though they are being heard, as though they are cared for because you’re taking the time to hear what they are saying and making the necessary changes.
This might be providing them with something they are telling you they need to do their job more effectively, or it might be listening when they are struggling with something. As we said, your team is made up of people, and with people come issues, complex emotions, and struggles. Sometimes, all it takes is listening and asking if there is anything that you can do to help to show them that you really do care, and want them to be okay. It’s so basic, but it makes all of the difference in the world.
Hopefully, you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you can do to take care of your staff, and work on building loyalty. It works, so if you’re willing to give it a go and do things a little different, you should see results.
